Draw from Memory: Pokemon! - Metapod

Description

Metapod = disfigured potato

Metapod: The Disfigured Potato Pokemon. It's green, so eating it would kill you. But it would probably not look appetizing if you managed at all to split this guy open. It would probably look like a gelatinous cross between a Caterpie and a Butterfree, depending on how close it is to evolving. Plus, oozing, smelly bug guts look and smell very much not like a normal potato, so it would deter anyone from eating it, unless you were a blind Voldemort or a starving person suffering from nasal allergies. But anywayyy, enough with the dark humor....

I realized its eye was wrong, but it was too late. It had become a cute-eyed disfigured potato, and there was no going back from my misshapen creation. It had to evolve to the next freak, no matter what.

Again, sorry for the shadows. My camera was running out of battery energy, so I had to hurry taking the pictures 1 - 24 (Bulbasaur through Arbok). *inserts "Let's Run" song again* In the nick of time, too. It shut off after I got a picture of Ekans, but I managed to turn it on once more to get a picture of Arbok. I'll attempt drawing Pikachu soon. *gulps*

I've always had a bad memory problem, so it doesn't surprise me I can't draw even Kanto Pokemon from memory. Mind you, Pokemon is my life. I watched the original Pokemon series when I was 8, fell in love with it, played Pokemon Blue version when I was 9 years old, and I've been in love with everything Pokemon ever since. I missed some generations due to some life hardship years ago, so I've only played the games up to Pokemon Pearl. Nonetheless, I can name most of them by sight and identify them by their sprite sounds. What's odd is I can visualize what they look like for the most part, but the moment my pen touches the paper, I can't remember the proportions! It's terrible, but I've always been that way. I don't feel bad about it most of the time, though. Only when I'm trying to remember people's faces, their names when I see them, or both. Also when I'm writing and my brain bends characters' proportions around, especially height and size-wise. Anyhoo, I thought it'd be funny to see how I do with drawing Pokemon. Results? Both laugh-provoking and cringey. Later I'll re-draw them with the help of references. I'm much better when I have little visual reminders to work with. Oh, and part of what made drawing them difficult was using a C-3 dip ink pen nib, which is thicker than I'm used to using. I haven't been able to find the two smaller nibs for months, but I really felt like drawing Pokemon with a dip ink pen, so I decided to try it out. Big mistake. Lol. But it wouldn't look much better than this, let me tell you: My visual memory is horrible.

Materials used: Cheap 3.5 x 4 inch paper, dip ink pen with C-3 nib, India ink.
